Rush Process
COVID-19 Recruitment Update
Due to COVID-19 recruitment will look slightly different in the Fall of 2020. These changes include the preliminary rounds of recruitment to be moved online and special regulations regarding all in-person events. During the preliminary rounds, PNMs will choose their favorite organizations from online profiles and have the opportunity to talk with the organization via video chat. Once favorite organizations are selected there will be two in-person rounds. The first will be a tabling event where PNMs will have the opportunity to walk around an outside courtyard and talk to their favorite organizations. The second in-person round will take place in the fraternity houses and will be the final meeting before bids are given out. Bid Day will be online and directions to accept the bid will be given each PNM who received a bid. Although this is a new system and surly is not desirable we are excited to welcome all of our new members to the greek community!
Informal Recruitment
Although formal recruitment is a pivotal aspect of our recruitment process, we also practice informal recruitment for PNMs that either chose not to participate in formal recruitment or were too late to participate. We seek out young men from across campus year-round to join our organization. If you have any questions about our informal recruitment process please reach out to us!
New Member Education Process
After accepting a bid our new members undergo a 5-week education process. During these five weeks, we instill our organizational values and teach new members about our rich fraternal history. Our mission throughout this process is to develop our new members into upstanding gentlemen in their community and give them the leadership tools in order to be successful throughout their college career. If you have any questions or concerns about the specifics regarding our new member education program please feel free to contact us!
FAQ
What are the requirements of a New Member?
We require our new members to uphold the same standards we set for the rest of our chapter. This includes maintaining a 2.75 GPA, completing 10 service hours per semester, and paying all dues. Alongside this, we require our new members to complete 8 study hours per week and attend one guest lecture during their new member period. For a complete list of New Member requirements please contact anyone on our executive board.
Can I rush if I did not sign up for formal recruitment?
Yes! We conduct an informal rush process to bring in members outside of formal IFC (Interfraternity Council) recruitment. If you are interested in informal recruitment please contact anyone on our executive board!
Is participating in recruitment safe? (COVID-19)
Since the pandemic began UTK has taken major steps to ensure the safety and health of students. During recruitment in the fall of 2020 UTK has issued regulations for each greek house. One major regulation UTK imposed is the first half of the rush process will be online. PNMs will choose a small number of fraternities to visit in person after viewing their online profile and a brief video call. All houses will be cleaned in between the in-person rounds, and masks will be required. Also, there will be a limit on the number of people gathered in each house. UTK is taking all the necessary precautions to ensure the safety of all students throughout this process. If you have any further questions please contact our President Ian Collins.
